The name “INKULULEKO” comes from the Isizulu word meaning “freedom”. INKULULEKO is an empowerment project developed by Red Light anti-human trafficking initiative to facilitate the skills development of victims of human trafficking, and other violent, sexual and domestic crimes.
INKULULEKO is therefore an empowerment project to develop sustainable skills to not only facilitate healing of victims through creativity, but to equip these victims with knowledge and skills to live free of their pasts and aspire to be the women they were created to be.
INKULULEKO will conduct sewing/craft projects with women identified by safe houses who are thought to be at a suitable stage in their rehabilitation programme to participate in the project. The sewn and crafted items will be sold in markets/online to sustain the project and contribute to the safe houses participating in the project. As the project progresses and funds/resources are made available, more women will be introduced into the Inkululeko project.
NKULULEKO will also be providing beauty, clothing and craft packages to each new women rescued into the safe house which will be dependent on donations and funds received from donors.
